Chris Moyles has mocked the drama surrounding David Walliams on Britain’s Got Talent moments after his I’m A Celebrity elimination, hours after leaving the jungle.
On Thursday night’s episode, the radio DJ became the latest star to be booted out of camp after a public vote, with five celebrities still in the running for the crown: Jill Scott, Mike Tindall, Owen Warner, Seann Walsh and Matt Hancock.
During his exit chat with Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, Chris admitted his astonishment over the fact that Hancock was ‘more popular’ than him, stating: ‘I’m gutted that Matt Hancock is more popular than me. What the bejeezus is going on?’
On Friday, the 48-year-old took part in his first televised interview since leaving camp, joining Lorraine Kelly on her ITV programme.
At the beginning of their chat, he took the opportunity to ridicule the speculation over whether or not David is set to return as a BGT judge, amid rumours he may have quit his role as judge.
Earlier this month, the best-selling children’s author and Little Britain TV comedy star issued an apology after a leaked recording caught him making derogatory comments about auditionees.
As Chris appeared on Lorraine, he told her that he was ‘devastated’… before clarifying that he wasn’t talking about leaving the I’m A Celebrity camp.
‘I’m absolutely devastated… not to be out of the jungle,’ he said.
‘I thought I was in the running to be on Britain’s Got Talent replacing David Walliams and now you’re telling me it’s somebody else. Gutting news. I’m available Lorraine.’
Just before Chris’ interview began, Lorraine had mentioned that perhaps former Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse could be considered as a replacement on the BGT judging panel, should a space be made available.
However, BGT judge Amanda Holden has made it clear she wants David to stay.
When asked for her views on whether the judging panel could have a shake-up in the near future, she said: ‘I would like to see the judging panel look like it did before. I think we’re a great team, we’re a family.’
When asked directly if she was ‘Team David’, she added: ‘Of course I’m Team David.’
Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV. I’m A Celebrity returns tonight at 9.15pm on ITV1.
